Bio Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (BVCI) Products
Bio Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (BVCI) formulas are more volatile, allowing biobased carrier(s) to dissipate, leaving Corrosion Inhibitors and/or Anti-Wear and Extreme Pressure additives remaining on the surface of the metal parts to prevent corrosion and wear.
With BVCI products, Ultra Thin, highly protective films can be applied. Film thickness of 0.02 mils or less have been tested in the ASTM D-1748 Humidity Cabinet on polished cold rolled steel panels. Test results from 20 to 60 days before failure are typical for BCI and BVCI ultra-thin films.
BVCI Application
The BVCI formulas can be used to carry corrosion inhibitors into the air, releasing the corrosion inhibiting compounds on metal surfaces, preventing corrosion. BVCI are highly effective when added to packaging or sealed containers where the corrosion inhibition can remain as a volatile corrosion inhibitor for a longer period, protecting metal parts.
The formula allows the corrosion inhibitors to penetrate into close tolerance areas, preventing corrosion which allows for easier cleaning and/or paint preparation.
Note: Use of BVCI ensures healthy work environments. Workers opening BVCI treated packages or sealed containers will not be exposed to hazardous petroleum gases, or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

Protects Raw Materials & Newly Machined Parts
Bio Corrosion Inhibitors protect both Ferrous and Non-ferrous metals.
Corrosion begins when an electrolyte (water and oxygen from humidity) is present on the surface of metal. When this condition occurs, electrons then flow from high energy areas of the metal to low energy areas, in a loop, or circuit, through the electrolyte. Current flows from anode to cathode on the metal surface forming rust, or corrosion in the process.
BCI and BVCI chemistries inhibit, or block, this reaction of rust and corrosion from occurring on the metal's surface.
BCI and BVCI molecules attach themselves to the metal surface to form an invisible Utra Thin Film protective coating that restricts the flow of electrons from the metal surface. Electrical current attempts to flow from the anode through the electrolyte to the cathode but is blocked due to the presence of the BCI's and BVCI's ultra thin film barrier.
This protective barrier is designed to seal out and provide long term protection against Salt, Air, and Moisture while retaining its advanced properties over a wide temperature range.
Metalworking & Machine Shop Applications
Use on equipment exposed to elements, air, water, and acids.
Use on Outdoor storage of Raw Materials
Use on Indoor storage of Machined Work-pieces
Use on Finished Stock.
Excellent as a Preservative Lubricant on Sheet Steel and Steel Parts.
Apply by Dipping, Spraying, or Brushing.
Return On Capital Investment
Our customers are seeking higher performance, new safety features, and a series of Return On Investment (ROI) incentives for switching over to Bio Corrosion Inhibitors made from renewable Green Chemistry.
Cost Justification For Selecting Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI)
Green Means Return On Investment
In most shops, the relative impact of corrosion inhibitor purchasing costs on net profitability over the course of a year is relatively minor.
Return On Investment (ROI) is a far better measure of cost justification. Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) made from Stabilized HOBS present a cost reduction opportunity for businesses, delivering a ROI many times over the purchasing cost differential incurred from switching to these high performance, multi-functional, multi-purpose light industrial oils.
The typical Return On Investment from gained operational efficiencies is much greater than the total cost of purchasing Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) over the course of a year.
No Hidden Costs
There are no extra costs incurred from switching over to Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI).
Contamination of Workers
Workers not using Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) or Bio Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (BVCI) are operating under unnecessary risk from potential contamination. Exposure from petroleum corrosion inhibitors is common; often unavoidable and toxic.
Using United Bio Lube's patented BCI and BVCI Green Chemistries eliminates the potential negative health effects on workers or the environment. Workers are safe when there is incidental contact with Bio Corrosion Inhibitors due to naturally occurring events or human error.
Green Means Real Operational Cost Savings
Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) offer Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Machine Shops, Metalworking Facilities, and Auto Repair Shops
a cost-effective way to ensure precision in high accuracy work-pieces left in storage while improving the indoor air quality in assembly workplaces.

Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) add real value to Metalworking and Machine shops:
Less Wear from Corrosion
Protects Raw Materials & Machined Parts
Patented Bio Corrosion Inhibitor (BCI) chemistry protects ferrous and nonferrous metals from rust and corrosion.
Rust and corrosion begins when an electrolyte (water, oxygen, humidity) is present on the surface of metal. When this happens, electrons then flow from high energy areas of the metal to low energy areas, in a loop, or circuit, through the electrolyte. Current flows from anode to cathode on the metal surface forming rust, or corrosion.
BCI chemisty restricts the flow of electrons to block rust and corrosion from occurring on the metal's surface. BCI molecules attach themselves to the metal surface forming a strong thin film protective coating. Electrical current attempts to flow from the anode through the electrolyte to the cathode but is blocked due to the presence of BCI's ultra thin barrier.
The protective barrier is designed to seal out and to provide long term protection agaist salt, air, and moisture while retaining its properties over a wide temperature range.
Less Corrosion Inhibitor Used
Stabilized Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) are superior in Oxidation Stability. Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) are very durable and will not break down under heat and moisture.
Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) have a longer Corrosion Inhibitor Service Life; thereby, they need to be applied less frequently.
Less Waste
- Eliminates hazardous waste handling and storage fees.
- No hazardous waste is generated at any point throughout the manufacturing, usage, or disposal of United Bio Lube's Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI).
Less Harmful
United Bio Lube's Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) provide the highest level of protection against toxic contamination. Such safety standards are inherently unattainable in petroleum based corrosion inhibitors.
The HOBS purity factor provides an additional level of insurance against worker contamination and fire.

HOBS Promotes U.S. Oil Independence
United Bio Lube's Bio Corrosion Inhibitors were developed in collaboration with Dept. of Agriculture (USDA), Dept. of Interior (DOI), Dept. of Energy (DOE), and Dept. of Defense (DOD) through bipartisan initiatives, lead by senators Thomas Harkin (D, Iowa) and Richard Lugar (R, Indiana), to reduce America's dependency on fossil fuels and foreign oil while promoting rural economic development.
The High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS) program is a cornerstone technology America is deploying to gain Self Reliance, Economic Security, Workplace Safety, and Environmental Protection for the next 100 years.
Stabilized High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS)
United Bio Lube's Bio Corrosion Inhibitors (BCI) are formulated from U.S.D.A. sponsored High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS)2 and processed with stabilized chemistry for:
- High Performance
- Longevity of corrosion and rust prevention
- Anti-Oxidation
- Cold Flow
- No Deposits
- Easy Clean-Up of parts after storage
- Fire Safety
- 100% Ultimate Biodegradation
HOBS are specialized commodity vegetable oil crops, i.e. Soy, Sunflower, Canola, and Corn. Once stabilized against oxidation, these basestocks yield the safest, most efficient oils available in today's marketplace.
Note: United Bio Lube's Green Policy position supports the Hybrid Breeding method for naturally growing Mid and High Oleic Base Stock commodity oil crops.
HOBS Promotes U.S. Green Chemistry Policy
Renewable agricultural High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS) represent a growing Green Chemistry market segment that is directly addressing:
- U.S. dependency on fossil fuels and foreign oil.
- Solutions for sequestering CO2 and other harmful green house gases.
- The elimination of hazardous waste streams from toxic lubricants, solvents, and fuels.
- The fostering of new renewable, Green Chemistry based marketplaces.
- The preservation of U.S. manufacturing.
- The creation of new employment opportunities.
Each of these National Security Interests are inclusive, and in alignment with, the Green alternative energy policies advocated by ApolloAlliance.org, a Ten-Point Initiative for Clean Energy and Good Jobs. ApolloAlliance.org is an strategic alliance of government (U.S. Senators, Congressman, Governors, Mayors) and industry leaders (Labor Unions, Corporate Executives) organized to transition the U.S economy away from a Fossil Fuel dependent Hydrocarbon-based Economy towards a more sustainable, renewable Carbohydrate-based U.S. Bio Economy.
Green Chemistry Life Cycle
Broad use of vegetable oil based lubricants creates a continuous, long term economically sustainable Green Chemistry cycle within the greater U.S. Biobased Economy
whereby U.S. industries lubricate and protect machinery and equipment with Stabilized High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS) grown on U.S. farms.
Most notably, no CO2 is produced in the manufacturing of Bio Corrosion Inhibitors. As High Oleic Base Stock (HOBS) vegetable oils are grown and scaled to U.S. commodity crop volumes, harmful Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas is simultaneously sequestered, or 'pulled', from our atmosphere.
HOBS Sequesters CO2 From The Atmosphere
As Soy, Sunflower, Canola, and Corn HOBS commodity crops are grown, harmful CO2 is sequestered, or pulled out of the atmosphere. By scaling out HOBS development across the country, the U.S. can begin to reverse its contributions to the dangerous trend of global warming.
HOBS Provides Unique Cradle-to-Grave Opportunities
United Bio Lube's Bio Corrosion Inhibitors can be made from Recycled or Re-refined biobased fluids and oils, such as Bio Hydraulic Fluids or Bio Gear Oils.
Still non-hazardous after usage, Bio Hydraulic Fluids and Bio Gear Oils can be reclaimed and processed into additional biobased lubricant products, i.e. Bio Corrosion Inhibitors, Bio EP Greases, Bio Corrosion Inhibitors. In turn, these re-refined biobased lubricant products will completely biodegrade as they are expelled into the environment upon usage.
Re-refining biobased fluids and oils into biodegradable Bio Corrosion Inhibitors in the Total Loss Lubricant category represents an industry breakthrough in Cradle-to-Grave low environmental impact product lines. Such Green Chemistry solutions represent the future for controlling waste streams from lubricants.
HOBS Protects Against Soil Contamination
The non-hazardous naturally occurring esters found in HOBS are rated Ultimate Biodegradation3 and are renewable, recyclable, and sustainable national resources.
United Bio Lube's Bio Corrosion Inhibitors are formulated with a non-toxic Zinc-free additive package with No Heavy Metals and No Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
HOBS are Safe, Non-Hazardous, and Worker-Friendly
Bio Corrosion Inhibitors have an additional benefit of being non-toxic to humans.
Meeting and exceeding many OEM specifications, Bio Corrosion Inhibitors are preferred over petroleum based products when:
- High performance is required
- There is incidental worker contact with the corrsion inhibitor
- Direct exposure to the environment is likely
